This means balance matters: an excellent answer on one passage and a thin answer on the other is limited by the overall impression. Choose two passages you can develop equally well.

The most common way to lose marks here
Paraphrasing. Retelling a passage in your own words earns roughly half the marks available. What is wanted is named themes, each shown briefly from the passage's own wording — aim for at least three. Adding the sura's name, number or the story of its revelation adds nothing and costs you time.
